When asked your favorite asana (pose), one might say Sivasana (corpse pose) due to the relaxation and ease required. Because it's one of your favorite poses too, we are excited to offer a new class that begins with this infamous resting pose!
Sivananda Hatha Yoga!!!!!

Sivananda Hatha yoga is a holistic approach to yoga that embraces all aspects of yoga.

Proper exercise: Asanas
Proper breathing: Pranayama
Proper relaxation: Savasana
Proper diet - Vegetarian
Positive thinking and meditation: Vedanta and Dhyana

A session of training typically starts with every practitioner resting in Savasana, and begins with the Pranayama (breathing exercises) Kapalabhati and Anuloma Viloma, preceding rounds of Sūrya Namaskār, before the standard program of the 12 basic asanas. A session averages 90 minutes, and the traditional program has a basic sequence, allowing for some variation in the later part of the sequence

What to Expect

A typical class is 1.5 hours of life changing sequences including chanting, pranayama (breath work), asanas (physical poses), savasana (relaxation) and meditation.

The focus is to master 12 basic poses that were carefully selected and include inversions, backbends, forward bends, twists, balances, and hamstring stretches. A little of everything, in other words. The poses are ideally done slowly and with control to stretch and strengthen the body as well as open the chakras. As students become proficient in the 12 basic poses, variations may be introduced.

IS SIVANANDA FOR YOU?
The goal of this practice is to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The asana system is fairly fixed, so you must enjoy working slowly and methodically to fully master the prescribed poses. An interest in Indian philosophy is also a good indicator that you'll enjoy Sivananda yoga.

"Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhanavu" is a beautiful mantra that means May all living beings be happy and free and may my thoughts and actions always support this cause.  This is one of our favorite mantras and seemed fitting to use the same Sanskrit words in a shortened version to describe "a place of happiness and bliss."
